From the small town of Yuma, AZ, Trent made All-Conference in Basketball, and All-State inTrack & Field. He then went on to become All-American in his two years at Mesa Community College in AZ. While there, Trent trained with the Junior World Record holder in Shot Put at that time. During this time, Nationally recognized Coach, Selmer Olsen, saw Trent's potential and made a bold decision to completely deconstruct and re-build Trent's throwing style and techniques. The results were slow in coming, at first , but through trust and consistent training combined with dedicated coaching, Trent began to surpass all of his PR's to make All-American for his two years at Mesa, winning Nationals as a team. EventuallyTrent was recruited by the University of Nevada, Reno, where he holds the Men's Shot Put record to this day!
After setting the school record and qualifying for Nationals at UNR, Trent was injured right before Nationals and Olympic trials. Finished with his eligibility, he spent two years as the UNR Men's Throws/Strength Coach. Trent then spent time at local, Reno high schools, assisting a National High School record holder in Discus, and went on to become a Certified Personal Trainer as a compliment to his full-time work in public service.
His UC Davis Invitational Shot Put Record from 1984 has stood the test of time and is still current!
Developing champions, one throw at a time.
Coach Trent is a former high school and collegiate Throws athlete before he was a coach. As an athlete from a small, Arizona town, Trent didn't have access to specialized instruction until he got to Mesa Community College, where his technique was completely deconstructed and, subsequently, reconstructed to achieve maximum results by elite Throws Coach Selmar Olsen. While at Mesa College, Coach Trent trained with then Junior National and Mesa Junior College Shot Put record holder at 70 feet Ron Semkiw. Having gone through this arduous and priceless process himself, Coach Trent knows first-hand how to revolutionize the athletes that come his way.
Coach Trent was certified as a Throws Coach by the following coaches: Don Babbitt (Coaches shot put Olympian Reese Hoffa), Carrie Lane (Coached shot put Olympian Adam Nelson)
Beginning to Advanced Throwers:
Whether you've just finished your very first track & field season or you are fine-tuning for major competition, your goals can be accomplished through my specialized training.
Build strength and explosiveness through specific conditioning in order to peak at the right time.
Improve technique through better understanding of the biomechanics of your throw. The mechanics of force, mass and motion (linear and rotational) are studied and are applied to each event. An athlete does not have to be the biggest or strongest to throw far. I am here to show you how.
Certified USTFCCCA Throws Coach, Trent was a volunteer Throws Coach for Women's Track and Field at UNR in the 2012-2013 season.
Himself, a UNR current record-holder in shot put of 64'1', Trent also spent two years as the UNR Men's Throws Coach.
Over two decades in public service afforded Trent various opportunities to volunteer at local Reno high schools in Throws, become a Certified Personal Trainer, and eventually led him to become a Certified Throws Coach. However, it was never enough, and Trent retired in 2014 to dedicate himself full-time to training athletes of any age, gender and level to bring out their best and get the results they have been missing.
